Creative Mystery Box

Hosted By: Marcy Sacks
In this time of uncertainty, without the structure of school and activities, it can be valuable to just look around you and find the joy and creative spark that everyday objects can inspire. Through guided creative exercises (and a bit of silliness) this class will give kids ages 7-10 the chance to have fun, stretch their imagination, and create.
Suggested equipment list: Bring an empty shoe box, some paper, some markers, a stuffed animal, and a couple small objects that can fit in the palm of your hand. (i.e. a lego, small toy, coin, marble, leaf etc.) A water color set would be great too if you have one.

Knitting Around Town

Hosted By: Sylvie Evans
Calling all participants with some knitting experience! This summer we will be knitting scarves in our virtual class. If you have little confidence in your knitting skills, you’ll be practicing your knitting using garter stitch. If you have some confidence in your knitting skills (understanding knitting vs. purling, counting stitches, following a pattern) there will be a selection of patterns for you to choose from. If you finish your scarf project before the end of the two week session, there will be extra projects offered like yarn dolls, pom poms, etc.
In order to accommodate our new online platform, some knitting experience is required. If you have an adult or close family member at home who knows how to knit, that would be very beneficial for troubleshooting. The instructor will be in touch regarding materials with those who register. Different items will be suggested for each participant based on age and skill level.

Simply Soapstone

Hosted By: Lizzy Mayer
Soapstone class is going back to its roots: mindful, thoughtful carving without the fuss! If you’ve worked with soapstone before, you know how much shape you can create with just sandpaper.  In this online class, we will ditch the saws, files and rasps and create whatever amazing 3D forms your mind comes up with.  BONUS: for our larger piece, we’ll be working with a new kind of soapstone which is a lighter color!  Instruction will include video tutorials on techniques, meeting as a group every day, and time for virtual one-on-one help and collaboration with hosts and participants.
Suggestions for participants: You will receive a kit with all that you need: smaller pieces to experiment with, various sandpaper grits, oil and buffer cloths to finish your pieces and more.
This is an outdoor activity, so you’ll need a shady place to work outside that can get dusty. Please note there is a 9:30AM class and a 10:30AM class. Choose the time you prefer when registering.
